New Jersey & Massachusetts badge for 1892 National
SOLD!!!
A great badge worn by members of Post 23 in New Jersey and Massachusetts at the 1892 Grand Army of the Republic national encampment held in Washington, D.C. A large mosquito is on the brass type hanger. The hanger is approximately 3 inches by 2 3/4 inches with a long pin on the back. Attached to the hanger is a long red ribbon with silver graphics. Written on the badge is "WASHINGTON - 1892 - Twenty Sixth National Encampment - JOS. HOOKER - Mass. - Post 23 - AAron Wilkes - N.J." A metal tassel hangs from the ribbon. The approximate size of this badge is 12 inches by 2 3/4 inches. Several GAR posts paired with other similar posts in other states to create a ribbon to be worn by their members at the national encampment. You normally find the mosquito on New Jersey badges. That is probably why the Jos. Hooker - Mass. is highlighted in silver and the Aaron Wilkes post is not. What a great ribbon.
