UCV Photo Group T.B Amiss 31 Georgia Surgeon

A wonderful UCV group with several photos and lots of family paperwork and envelopes. Thomas Benjamin Amiss mustered into Co. B, 6th Virginia Cavalry. He was transfered to the 31st Georgia Infantry as the Surgeon. He served the complete war as a Surgeon and ended up in a Richmond hospital as a Surgeon. After the war he moved to Luray, Virginia and opened his Doctor's office. He was a graduate of V.M.I.
There are two photos of Dr. Amiss and lots of paperwork and envelopes. The first photo has Dr. Amiss seated and he is wearing his United Confederate Veteran pin in his lapel. The second photo shows Dr. Amiss with a small boy in front of his office.

United Confederate Reunion Photo at Mexia, Texas

A really nice photo of the United Confederate Veterans reunion at Mexia, Texas. This reunion was probably held at the Confederate Reunion Grounds in Limestone County, Texas. This great photo has lots of Confederate veterans standing in front of a building with a great cannon on the right hand side of the photograph. There are lots of veterans and many of them are wearing ribbons. The photo is approximately 8 5/8 inches by 6 1/2 inches and is on a card approximately 10 inches by 12 inches. The photographers stamp is J.W. Harcrow, Photographers of Mexia, Groesbeck, and Wortham, Texas.

A great CDV of General George Armstrong Custer. This is a bust shot of Custer in his general's uniform. There is no backmark on this image. On the back of the image in ink is "Custar". There is a bend on the right corner of this image. It does not affect the Custer image but does drop the cost of this image several hundred dollars!

Great postcard put out by the Richmond, VA Soldier'e Home with General Lee's Farewell address on it. It also has his picture and four Confederate flags. Part of the address reads "I need not tell the survivors of so many hard-fought battles, who have remained steadfast to the last, that I have consented to this result from no distrust of them; but feeling that valor and devotion could accomplish nothing that would compensate for the loss that must have attended a continuance of the contest, I determined to avoid the useless sacrific of those whose past services have endeared them to their countrymen." It makes chills go up and down your body! What a great man.

They mislabled this postcard! The label reads "Human Flag, Jefferson Davis Monument, Richmond, VA." but the monument is the Robert E. Lee monument in Richmond! Anyway this great post card has a human Confederate battle flag in front of the monument. Think we can get people to do that today!!! Love that political correctness.

Two nice photographs of Confederate veterans at the 1913 UCV National reunion at Chattanooga. The first photo has three Confederate veterans standing on Lookout Mountain with two ladies and a child. Two of the three have many badges that can be seen in the photo. The second photo has the veterans at the train station headed somewhere! These photos are approximately 2 3/4 inches by 4 1/2.

Another great photo of Confederate veterans. This photo is of the A.P. Hill UCV camp at the July 4, 1910 parade in Springfield, Massachusetts. The photo is approximately 7 5/8 inches by 9 7/8 inches and the backboard is approximately 13 inches by 10 3/4 inches. This photo has the veterans marching down the street with a band and flags flying. The photographer's stamp is "Copeland & Dodge, Commercial Photographers, 310 Main St., Springfield, Mass.". Great photo!

Ten Confederate veterans at the unveiling of a battlefield marker at Wise's Fork, North Carolina are in this photo. This great North Carolina Confederate veteran photograph is approximately 10 inches by 8 inches and the card is approximately 11 inches by 13 1/2 inches. Many of the veterans have badges on! There is an old brown backing that came with the photo and has ink writing saying "This picture was taken at the unveiling of a marker on the battlefield of Wise's Fork in which these men fought. These are Confederate soldiers who fought in that battle."

Great photograph of a Texas Confederate veteran wearing his camp badge! The Camp badge is "Jno. C. Burks Camp - No. 656 - U.C.V. - Clarksville, Texas" as seen on the badge in the photo. The white card is approximately 6 3/8 inches by 9 1/8 inches. The photo is approximately 5 inches by 3 1/2 inches. The card has a photographers imprint from Dallas. The photo was probably taken at the 1902 Dallas UCV National reunion or maybe he was just traveling to Dallas. Who knows!!
