12th Illinois Cavalry 1913 Gettysburg Ribbon

This is one hard to find Gettysburg ribbon! This great ribbon was presented compliments of H. Calkins, Co. I, 12th Illinois Cavalry at the 1913 50th Gettysburg Reunion. The ribbon is approximately 8 3/4 inches by 2 1/4 inches. On the ribbon is a likenes of H. Calkins. Written on the ribbon is "Compliments of H. Calkins, Co. I - Gettysburg - Fifty years ago today - We all were there - In squadron square - To meet the foe in the morning. - But now we meet - And as friends greet - With none of war's sad warning! 12th ILL. CAVALRY".

Homer Calkin joined the Independant McClellan Cavaly in October, 1861. He transferred to the 12th Illinois Cavalry in December, 1862. He was mustered out April, 1866. The ribbon was glued in a book and has six spots of glue attaching it to paper on the back of the ribbon.
