A really hard to find Southern Cross identified to B.H. Welch, Co. A, 12 Kentucky Cavalry. The 12th Kentucky was in General Nathan Bedford Forrest's command from 1863 until the end of the war. Welch joined Forrest's command in April, 1863. He was promoted to Lieutenant April 20, 1864. You don't have to wonder which regiment Welch belonged to because he had it engraved under his name on the bar of the cross. An identified Southern Cross with the regiment on the bar and in General Forrest's command! It doesn't get much better than this.
