| An identified ladder badge to J.H. Powers, Co. C, 56th New York Infantry. The 56 New York Infantry fought early in the war at Yorktown, Williamsburg, Savage Station, Fair Oaks, and Malvern Hill. The regiment was then moved to the Charleston, SC area and was active in the seige of Fort Wagner and fought in other action around South Carolina.
