This is one of the hardest GAR national badges to find and this one is identified. This great badge was worn by J.M. Hunter, Commander George H. Thomas Post #13, Cincinnati, Ohio. Hunter must have liked Minnesota because he moved there later in his life. With this hard to find badge is J.M. Hunter's GAR card made especially for the 1884 National reunion. Also included is the "Roll of the Eighteen Annual Encampment G.A.R. held at Minneapolis, Minn., July, 1884". This 18 page booklet has names of delegates at the reunion. J.M. Hunter was very active in the GAR and served as the National Inspector General. He also invented the flour sifter that was standard in every kitchen for years. Hunter served in the 50th NY Engineers and was a really interesting guy!
