Here is another tough GAR National badge to find. This is the 1888 Columbus GAR National badge. THe bronze, pin-back top suspension bar is inscribed "Columbus". Below that is an oval inscribed "1888", flanked by olive branches. Two bronze suspension chains support a bronze buckeye inscribed "G.A.R.". The buckeye is hinged and opens to reveal a profile bust of general U.S. Grant on one side and the inscription "Twenty Second National Encampment G.A.R. Columbus, Ohio Sept. 11, 1888" on the other. The badge is backed with a yellow, swallow-tail ribbon. There are two ribbons behind this badge and they are weak.
