A nice image of Sgt. Jacob L. Clingman of Battery "A" of the 1st Illinois Light Artillery.  Clingman is wearing his sergrant stripes on his uniform.  The backmark is "Hesler, Artist, No. 113 Lake Street, Chicago".  Clingman mustered in in July 1861 and mustered out in July 1864.  He started as acorporal and ended as a 1st Sergeant.
