A great image of an officer whoserved in three regiments during the entire war.  Robert McFaddin mustered in as 2nd Lieutenant in the 7th Illinois Infantry in April 1861.  He mustered out in July 1861 and immediately was promoted 1st Lieutenant of Company D of the 41st Illinois Infnatry.  In February 1862 he was promoted to Captain, and in September 1863 he was promoted to Major.  In March 1865 he was promoted to Lt. Colonel of the 53rd Illinois Infnatry.  In July 1865 he was promoted to Colonel.  He mustered out in July 1865.  In this image McFadden has Colonel's eagles on his rank straps.  Written under his image is "R.H. McFaddin - Col. 53rd Ills. Inf".  There is no backmark but a blue two cent revenue stamp on the back.
