A wonderful gold badge presented to comrade Lewis B. Brown from Grand Army of the Republic Post #17, New Haven, Connecticut.  The hanger is a copy of the GAR eagle hanger on the membership badges.  The second part of the badge is a Post Commanders symbol.  Attached to the Post Commanders symbol is a disk with a Tenth Corp symbol in the middle.  Written on the disk is "Post No. 17 New Haven".  The gold GAR drop has a beautiful white enamel circle on it.  Written on the drop is "Grand Army of the Republic - 1861 - Veteran - 1866".  Engraved on the back of the badge is "To Our Comrade Lewis B. Brown for years of fraternal labor in the Holy cause of CHARITY."

The badge is in the original box.  The maker on the box is "J.H.G. Durant - New Haven, Ct".  The box has a silk type material.  Both of the insides of the box are there but the outer part of the top is missing.  A beautiful badge.
