Here is a group of items that belonged to a Confederate Veteran named William R. Allen. Interesting display of personal items that includes: 1) His circa 1890's or so fancy shaving mug in excellent condition. 2) His eye glasses and leather case with a medallion that was copied from the elusive one cent Confederate States of America coin. The leather case is in fine condition, and was made by Buxton and appears to be turn of the century. The eye glasses are prescription, also dating to the turn of the century with a gold filled frame of high quality. 3) A relic condition bullet box with a note saying "Bullet puoch carried by Uncle William Allen in North Carolina Army 1865". The box is in poor condition, missing ends and flap but of crude manufacture consistent with CSA manufacture towards the end of the war. Chek out the crude flap closure!

William R. Allen enlisted in Co. I, 21st North Carolina Infantry on June 5, 1861. He was captured on April 16, 1865 at Sailor's Creek, VA and stayed at Newport News prison Until released after taking the oath of alligance on June 27, 1865. He was from Stokes County, North Carolina and made the rank of Corporal on January 31, 1865. His family reported he dies around 1911.

The 21st North Carolina was a hard fighting unit in Jackson's Corp. They fought from 1st Bull Run until Appomatox! What a great group from a hard fightin unit and a man that served for four years in some of the biggest battles og the war including GETTYSBURG!!!
