A wonderful bust created by Moses Ezeliel. Ezekiel was a cadet at VMI and was one of the famous New Market cadets! He graduated in 1866 and was encouraged to pursue his art by General Robert E. Lee, whose constant friendship he enjoyed. Ezekiel moved to Europe to pursue his art. He ended up living in Rome and was knighted by the Italian king. He was commisioned by the state of Virginia and the UDC for several statues in the United States. He created "Virginia Mourning Her Dead" and the "Confederate Soldier" that memorializes the prisioners who died at Johnson's Island. Ezekiel created this bust of Lee to memorialize his friend who encouraged him to follow his art. Originals of this bust currently sell for $2500.00 and up. This is the 1960 remake of this bust. An opportunity to own a great remake at 1/10th of the price.
