One of the most difficult 1913 Gettysburg state badges to find. Only 135 South Dakotans attended the 1913 Gettysburg reunion. This badge was worn by John Nelson, Co. H, 1st Minnesota Infantry. This is written in period ink in the back of the drop of the badge! The 1st Minnesota had a great Gettysburg record.
The hanger has "Delegate" on it. The second piece is a disc with a paper insert. Some of the delegates wrote their name on this disc. The ribbon is red, white, and blue. Written on the ribbon in gold is "Fiftieth Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg 1863-1913". The drop is celluloid with the South Dakota capitol on it. The badge is made by The Whitehead & Hoag Co.
