A very nice grouping of identified 5th New York ribbons and book plate. This grouping consists of five ribbons and a personalized book plate owned by Charles B. Thomas, Co. F, 5th New York Cavalry. Thomas enlisted on September 14, 1861 and re-enlisted on January 1, 1864. He was mustered out July 19, 1865 at Winchester, VA. He was a member of GAR Post #5-George H. Thomas- in Chicago, Illinois. He died October 12, 1924. The 5th New York Cavalry spent the war fighting in the eastern theatre.
The first piece is a printed book plate with Chas. B. Thomas on a 5th New york unit badge. This is approximately 5 1/2 inches by 3 1/4 inches. The first ribbon is a yellow ribbon with "5th N.Y. Cavalry" on it. The ribbon is approximately 8 1/2 inches long. The third ribbon is ayellow ribbon with crossed sabers on it and "Reunion Cavalry Society of the Armies of the United States - Utica, New York, May 23 and 24, 1901". The ribbon is approximately 5 7/8 inches long. With this ribbon is a white "New York" ribbon.The fourth ribbon is a yellow ribbon with "Cavalry Society - Armies of the United States - 1887 Re-Union, Saratoga, N.Y.". The ribbon is approximately 6 inches long. A white ribbon with "New York" is attached. A really nice identified grouping.
