Here is a wonderful Southern Cross of Honor awarded to Alexander McDowell. Alex McDowell was in the 1st Battalion Co. C, North Carolina Heavy Artillery. He was stationed primarily in the Cape Fear district. The cross is identified by a letter with it and an envelope from the Adjutant General's Office, United Confederate Veterans, New Orleans. Identified Southern Crosses are getting hard to find!
