16th Maine Infantry Members Badge - Gettysburg

A wonderful silver badge worn by a member of the 16th Maine Infantry. This great unit has as great a battle history as you could want! South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Mine Run, Wilderness, Spottsylvania, North Anna, Totopotomy, Bethesda Church, Petersburg, Weldon Railroad, New Market Heights, Hatchers Run, Gravelly Run, Five Forks, and Appomattox. What a great battle history. These guys truly "saw the elephant" many times! This beautiful badge has crossed rifles and "16 Maine Inf." on the hanger. The drop has "Fredericksburg to Appomattox - 1862 - 1865" written on it. There are crossed flags and swords, an eagle, two cannon tubes and stacks of ammunition on this great badge. The Fifth Corp emblem is in blue enamel surrounded by white enamel. On the back is "The G.G. Braxmar Co. - Maiden Lane - New York" and "Sterling". At Gettysburg, the 16th Maine ended up with 30 men and 5 officers that were not wounded, killed, or taken prisoner.
